More than two decades ago, on 29th December 1997, word richest person Bill Gates bought Hotmail for a $450 million and it joined the MSN group of services then Hotmail get quickly gained in popularity. And it was become a world largest Email service with more than 30 million user reported in 1999.
But In 1999, hackers announce a security flaw in Hotmail (now it is outlook) that allowed anyone to login to anybody’s Hotmail email account using the password ‘eh’. At that time it was called “most widely spread security flaw in the history of the internet”. After that in 2001, the Hotmail team was compromised again by computer hackers who discovered that anyone could log in to their Hotmail account and then pull messages from any other Hotmail account by crafting a Link address with the 2nd account’s username & a valid message number. It was such a simple attack that by the time the patch was made, many of newspapers and hundreds of web sites published exact descriptions allowing tens of thousands of hackers to run rampant across Hotmail. The exploitable vulnerability exposed millions of accounts to tampering between 7th to 31st August, 2001
